Dear friends and followers, welcome back and to the first proper interview on my channel.
I´ve have used "Kennedy Steve´s" voice in countless intro or to explain a ATC related question until I reached out to Steve via one of my videos. A day later he wrote me an e-mail and we planned out to meet for an interview at JFK airport. So I took the next flight to JFK and met with Steve and flew back a couple of hours later.
You were so kind to send in the question you would like me to ask Steve about his life and career as an airtraffic controller.
Here are your most asked questions for Steve:
01:06 - Where die you start your career as an airtraffic controller?
01:23 - Which positions did you work on?
01:56 - How long were your shifts?
02:29 - Which was your favorite position?
02:52 - What´s your opinion on the JFK layout?
03:45 - Describe your work with Concorde?
05:14 - Have you dealt with emergencies at JFK?
07:12 - The Lufthansa pilot who got out of the plane?
08:21 - Do you have a favorite airline?
08:50 - Do you have a favourite airplane?
09:39 - Were you on duty during 9/11?
10:19 - Do you have a pilot license?
10:36 - Can you tell an ATC jokes?
11:22 - Do you have favorite aviation movie?
12:00 - Did you ever get in trouble with your supervisor?
12:45 - Why did you change your voice whilst talking to the tugs?
13:53 - Have you ever spoken to AirForceOne?
I really hope you enjoyed this first interview of mine with such a great personality like Kennedy Steve?! I have one more interview to fly too, and I can wait to get started on that one :)
Thank you very much for your time, wishing you all the best, see you next week!

I KNEW he was at JFK!! With all the insane traffic he has to put up with, where else could he be? But that is precisely why I avoid the NYC3 like the plague. With that much traffic, there is NO WAY youre getting your connection on time. Plus there would just be waaaaaay too many people. I dont like crowds.

somehow, When he explained that as long as the traffic was moving and he was aiming to inject a bit of humour into a 180minute taxi i remembered the time he was bored and offered planes a highly inefficient reroute :D

Did u plan ur reflection off the jetway in the background at start of ur video — cool 😎❗️ k s said “pushing tin” was somewhat real as to the aTc environment on a given day In “pushing tin” recall John Cusack & Russell Crowe were not exactly in a tower but in a kind of adjacent bldg a bit away from the tower, what is that called❓

So here is a question: why is radio communication so crappy? you can have perfectly high quality phone calls, even with wireless phones, or mobile phones with several hundred people using the same station. you have megabyte wifi capable of transferring many hours of audio in seconds, allowing plenty of simultaneous conversations, and at no quality loss either. and yet, in aircraft of all things, the communication equipment seems so terrible. there is always noise, the voice breaks up, there are weird feedback noises, everything breaks down if more than one person transmits. why is there not a better system? you would think aviation was the first to get new voice transmission technology, given how important it is to avoid misunderstandings. for example: some overzealous atc saying things way too quickly, crappy radio quality does the rest and two aircraft on crossing runways think they got the takeoff clearance simultaneously. both transmit their readback at the same time. because both are transmitting, no one gets any message but garbled noise instead, without either sender knowing of that. and there you have your accident, completely avoidable.
