Dear friends and followers welcome back to my channel, today I´ll be another classic passenger question, why does “Why do flight attendants dim the lights prior to take-off and landing during hours of darkness?" Why does the tray table need to be stowed away, the window blinds up, and the seat put in an upright position? And I´ll give you little plane hack you can check out for yourself.
I´m sure many of you have experienced this, you taxi to the active runway during hours of darkness, the cabin crew makes their announcements, Ladies and gentlemen, in preparation for take-off we would like you to open up the window blinds, stow your tray table, and bring your seat in the upright position". A few minutes later the flight attendant dims the cabin lights.
But have you ever questioned why the flight attendants dim the lights?
It´s all got to do with eye adaptation.
If the cabin lights were to be fully bright, and there would be an emergency situation, after a rejected take-off, for instance, you would then jump onto the slide into absolute darkness, as your eyes struggle with the sudden change.
Why does the tray table need to be stowed?
Again, during an emergency evacuation, an unstowed table from an aisle seat, could be hazardous for the passengers in the middle and window seat. Many people struggle with the easiest tasks during a panic situation.
Why does the seat need to be in the upright position? If your backrest is reclined, the passenger right behind hasn´t got enough headspace in case he has to get into the brace position prior touchdown. Also, a reclined backrest could be obstructive during an evacuation.
Why do the windows blinds need to be open?
Primarily, so that you and the flight attendants see what´s going on outside of the plane.
Back to our engine fire situation. If you see flames piling up out of the engine on your side of the plane, you know you do not want to exit on that side of the plane.
Watch the entire video for more information and a plane hack you can check out for yourself the next time you´re in a passenger seat.
Thanks for watching, all the best your "Captain" Joe

I remember that once a passenger sat beside me told me to close the window blind after I opened it on take off. Apparently he wanted to sleep and *demanded* that his need to be fulfilled. I haven't have this knowledge so I closed it, I forget whether the cabin attendant asked me to open it or not, but now I know who's the jackass.

I got so annoyed when a non frequent flyer recline their seats just before take off! I sometimes told them to not do that, but they couldn't hear me due to the loud noise. Thank god the flight attendant notices and asks them to set the seat straight most of the times.

What are you doing on YouTube if you're a pilot? Surely spending hours on YouTube is going to make your flying skills go rusty and lead to poorer flying skills and crashed planes. Can you please announce every time you fly that you are Captain Joe, the YouTube star, so that I can quickly leave the plane. ;-)

I have a question ,, ps I am swedish so sorry if I do not spell correctly some words or do not write right grammatic. When I was flying one time, My plane was delayed and when it finally departure our plane was the last flight that took off , the other later then that got cancelled. And the other airline plane that was suppose to land was directed to land in another city instead. Explanation was: that they could not do a safe landing. When we took off at the take off our plane geer to the left so one minute we saw the taxaway and the next the grass (you could feel the wind take the plane to the left), this happened directly after we had lift from the taxaway (the wheels were off the ground). So was the "not safe landing" meaning that it could have end up in disaster if they tried to land the other plane but it do not have as much impact at take off ?. Hope you understood my question.

There is a third reason for the backrests. The seats are certified only with the backs in the upright position for crash impact energy absorption. This is partly a cost issue and partly a weight issue. IE to make the seat absorb the same amount of energy in both positions would add in excess of 1kg of weight per seat, and significantly increase (almost double) the cost of validation and certification. That 1kg of weight adds something like 1 kg of fuel burned per 10,000km. Work that out over the life of the seats and it's a lot IE several tonnes per seat in a 747.

I'm guessing they only dim the lights for night flights. If you're flying during the daytime, both the interior of the plane and the outdoors will be brightly lit.

Of course since every time you travel with an airline they're supposed to keep you and your things safe. If you lose your items and it's their fault then you get compensation

Thats another reason the lights are dimmed, especially at night. So the flight attendant or passenger can see outside the aircraft in case of an emergency, ever try to look out an airplane window at night with the cabin lights on? Its like looking into a black void, but once the cabin lights are turned off all the outside details come into view. Dont forget , the cabin crew also rely on passengers to report anything out of the ordinary. Look up Aloha Airlines Flight 243

Before i even watch this video ima take a guess why they do it im guessing the windows and lights are dimmed and lifted so that you can see out the window for any engine fires or such and alert the crew the tables need to be stowed away so you dont decapitate ourself in an emergency landing thats my guess
